Ok. It’s late now. I better make it fast.
Just came back from a rehearsal at the Dance Ensemble Singapore with the Ensemble. It was the 1st full rehearsal with everyone, including the string ensemble by Mr. Wu Ee Long. I saw some familiar faces, as some of them performed together with SNCO previously. As usual, I doubt any of them recognised me, including Lumpy.
Anyway, I have to do some advertisement. Not due to my involvement in the musical, but cos it’s really really really a very fantastic play. I was really impressed by them, the dancers. Really.
The 1st thing that started before the actual rehearsal, was their teacher, Mdm Yan Choong Lian, whom they call Yan 老师 if I’m remember correctly, introducing everybody in a very formal way, including Mr. Wu’s (Wu 老师) ensemble, the director, the music director, the 灯光师, and us of course. Yan 老师 also seeked for understanding and apologised that she might be a little strict, but all are for the sake of the production. I soon realise what she meant.
The next thing I saw was the dancers’ attitude towards the rehearsal. Despite being only a rehearsal, everyone of them performed as if it were the actual performance. The smiles on their face when they danced. The sadness on their face when the plot required them to. The real tears on Nick Shen’s face. I knew from the these images that I have a lot to learn from them.
Following which, was the shock by Yan 老师 using really harsh descriptive words on the dancers when she found something really unacceptable. And she spoke them with regular pauses in between each description. The really wonderful thing which I saw, was the dancers not showing any anger or hatred, but instead hastened their pace to set things right. I was wondering should such comments lay on me, would I still maintain my cool?
I’ve actually asked the same question when I saw Ikeda Sensei’s Human Revolution movie. Toda Sensei had been really strict and harsh on Ikeda Sensei too, but with the intention of fostering Ikeda Sensei. Would I eat the humble pie too, when a senior or an elder were to be very strict to me? Would I believe that 他们是为我好? We had seen really kind people in the Gakkai, and everyone had been very kind to everyone. But is this leading us to being complacent and taking things for granted?
The last thing which touched me to tears, was the dancers all, with one hand placed on their heart, thanking all the 老师s individually (and the Yan 老师 who was very very strict on them) and the string ensemble and the 灯光师, and us. It was like, they really appreciated and are filled with gratitude that we are all there to help in the success of the production. How humble they are! To think that they’ve danced really really very wonderfully. And sang wonderfully too! Why did they need us to be there when they can sing so well? Yet, they thanked us for being there. I’m feeling now that I’m doing them injustice if I don’t practice my parts hard enough. It’s really a wonderful exposure for me! I must really treasure it!
So some advertisement for the production. It is really really worth watching! It is Butterfly Dreams 《梦蝶。叠梦》:

A sequel of the dance musical, “Love on Stage” which was premiered in April 2008 with resounding success. This sequel will continue the story of the nearly disbanded performing company which has escaped the fate of closure because of its highly successful performance. The story will begin from where it ended and the troupe will continue to face new obstacles that will crush the determination of the struggling company. For this performance, we have invited renowned talents to collaborate with DES arts, hoping to push this musical to greater heights. These include well known singer-composer artiste, Jiu Jian, drama director Lim Hai Yen and Conductor Wu Ee Lung who will be leading his Chinese Orchestra to play live for the musical. We have also invited several guest artistes such as renowned local actor, Nick Shen. The artistic director for this production is local arts veteran, Mdm Yan Choong Lian, founder of Dance Ensemble Singapore.
